MEET THE TEAM

Betty Ann Lavoie

  • Description text goes here Betty Ann has over 40 years experience as a bookkeeper. She took the Business Course in High School and loved it. Married with 2 wonderful children.

Staying active is her motivation to continue working daily – on A/P, A/R, creating jobs and Digsafely Ticket for her client.

Loves to read, enjoys playing dominoes (Mexican Train) and cards.

Katie Van Hughes

  • I have a BA in Mathematics from Scripps College and am currently pursuing a BS in Accounting (on the dean’s list for all terms to-date).

I’ve been married to my best friend since I was 18 and we have one son (9-yrs-old) and four dogs. We recently moved across the country, purchased land in southern Virginia, and are developing the property with plans to build our own home.

I love puzzles and organization – When I see a problem, I am driven to break it down to analyze and understand all the pieces, and then put it back together in an organized and systematic way.

I worked as an administrator and business manager for several small businesses over the last decade, ranging from a family-run restaurant/deli counter to an architectural design and construction firm. The business owners I’ve worked with were focused, driven, and inspired to do what they loved – however repeatedly I saw financial management as the greatest concern that was outside of the business owner’s skill set. I know first-hand how not having a knowledgeable team on your side to help manage finances, payroll, taxes, etc. can and will pull unnecessary time and energy away from doing the part of your business you *want* to be doing. Small businesses drive our economy and involve individuals often pursuing their greatest dream – I want to help them make it a success.

Claire Burkard

  • I obtained my BS degree in accounting while testing for the Enrolled Agent exams that I completed in 2013, NTPI fellow in 2016, QBO advanced certification in 2017.

I married my best friend in 2007, together we have 5 children and 3 grandchildren, and a King German Shepherd we rescued.

I learn computer software for fun, I love solving problems and troubleshooting issues. I enjoy reading, horseback riding, fishing, and challenging the grandkids with games.

I am inspired by people with accounting and tax questions and/or concerns because I love to share the answers and help them to understand the process and outcome.

I began working for my parents when I was 12 years old, my father owned a nursery, and my mother owned a motel. Both businesses taught me a great deal regarding customer service. My goal is to provide an exceptional customer experience with everyone.

Amanda Tyler

  • I graduated cosmetology school with scholarships and high honors. I am working on my QBO Advisor training to get that certificate. I also have 17 years of customer service experience and it hasn't jaded me yet 😝

I was a Covid bride married in 2020 but my husband and I have been together 8 years total! I had a baby and bought a house in 2021 because I love to stress myself out I guess. We have 2 big dogs we love so much!

I love the gratification of seeing the results of my hard work! Being a part of helping someone toward accomplishing their own goal feels very rewarding. I also just enjoy spreading kindness and positivity even when it isn't reciprocated.

I also am super happy to be a part of the JLS team!!

Lori Walker

What motivates you and how you contribute to customer experience? Meeting deadlines, targets and goals. Coming up with creative ideas to improve something or make something new. Working well as part of a team. My past achievements. Solving issues.

Kristine Scott

  • Kristine joined the JLS Accounting team after 20+ years of job cost accounting/bookkeeping for general contractors, subcontractors and project developers. She brings depth to our team with her vast background in construction accounting and is assigned to a portfolio of our clients that she services. Prior to her current career, she worked as an auditor in stop-loss reinsurance and is a Veteran of the US Navy, where she earned the Navy Achievement Medal, a Meritorious Unit Service Medal and Good Conduct Award.

My life beyond this rewarding career with JLS Accounting, includes my passion for hockey – being originally from MN, I have thoroughly enjoyed my Vegas Golden Knights as a season ticket holder. When I’m not attending games, I love spending time with my wonderful granddaughter, cooking, playing the piano, reading, swimming and landscape painting. I also have a passion for volunteering with local dog rescues and partaking in fundraising for their causes.

My inspirations are vast – but most importantly, the drive and ambition of fellow female business owners that have shown me so much over the decades. The determination and drive of many, along with their mentorship and belief in my abilities, inspires me every day to continue what I have started in this wonderful industry.

What motivates me and how do I contribute to the overall customer experience? My clients – the determination of watching a single owner or partnership with a small or medium business take off – I want to be part of that in their success. I have always said, “let me do what you hired us to do so that you can do what you do best!”
